Our History
How it all Began
Our journey began with the establishment of the Media Maintenance Company Ltd, an IT and Audio Visual firm I ran with my father. Despite the challenges we faced during the 2009 financial crisis, the spirit of innovation and resilience from that company laid the foundation for what we have built today. From the ashes of our first venture, we launched Bristol Projector Hire, a Bristol-based Projector and Audio Visual firm that continues to thrive and collaborate with us today. My longstanding ambition has always been to create a premier IT and Audio Visual company. Upon relocating to Wales, I seized the opportunity to turn this vision into reality with Cartref Media Company.
The Media Maintenance Company Years
Between 2002 and 2009, I operated Media Maintenance Company Ltd. — a hands‑on, Bristol‑based outfit that travelled across the UK delivering Audio Visual Installation and Maintenance Services. Those years were gritty, technical, and full of problem‑solving; the kind of work where you’re crawling under stages one day and configuring control systems in a boardroom the next.
The company eventually evolved and later amalgamated into what is now Cartref Media Company, but those early years were where the foundations were laid. Media Maintenance Company was my proving ground — the place where I learned how AV systems behave in the real world, how clients think, and how to build a reputation for reliability.
Out of that momentum, in 2009, the dedicated hire arm of the business was born: Bristol Projector Hire. What started as a practical extension of our installation work quickly grew into a standalone service, supplying projectors and AV equipment for events across Bristol and beyond. It marked a shift from purely technical service delivery into a blend of AV hire operations, logistics, and customer‑focused event support — a direction that continues to shape my work today.
The Move to Wales & the Creation of Cartref Media Company
In 2022, after moving just over the bridge into Wales, I decided it was time for a fresh chapter. That’s when Cartref Media Company was created — initially as an IT Consultancy, drawing on my years of IT Support, Systems Administration, and infrastructure experience.
But I didn’t leave the AV world behind. Cartref Media became the home for everything that had grown from the Media Maintenance Company years:

The videography and event‑focused services
And the hire model pioneered by Bristol Projector Hire
To bring that hire service into its new Welsh home, I launched Projector & Audio Visual Hire Wales, following the same customer‑focused, reliable model that made Bristol Projector Hire successful.
Cartref Media Company is, in many ways, the culmination of two decades of technical work — a blend of IT consultancy, AV services, and event support that traces its roots all the way back to those early days in Bristol.
